Corrie Ten Boom is one of my heroes. She and her family hid Jews in their home in Holland during WW2 and were subsequently arrested and sent to the death camp in Ravensbruck.
Ten months later, when the Allies finally arrived, Corrie was transported to a temporary home for the displaced She later reported that one of the things she appreciated most was climbing into a bed with clean sheets.
So tonight, as I fluff up my pillow and fold back the comforter, I ask myself,
Do I fully appreciate my bed?
By the way..
Although we will probably never be called upon to offer a bed to a displaced person, it’s the place where we spend one third of our lives, so buy the best mattress and bedding you can afford. Quality bedding doesn’t come cheap but you’ll actually save money by purchasing a good set that will last 10+ years, rather than buying cheap sheets that will quickly fade, pill and wear out. We run an airbnb and our guests often comment on how comfortable the bed is. White cotton sheets are on all of our beds. Bamboo is also a good choice. They not only breathe (for those who perspire) but any stains can easily be bleached out. You can often pick up sets at HomeSense at a discounted price. Egyptian or Turkish cotton are wonderful.
Sweet dreams!
A year ago we were introduced to Brook Linen. Oh my goodness. There’s nothing like it. And we were buying really good Restoration Hardware sheets at $500 a pop. There’s nothing like Brook Linen. And yes, always just pure white.
Great suggestions, Sue!
